Not My First Unicorn Rodeo

When someone told me I lived in a fantasy land, I nearly fell off my unicorn.
(Pinterest quote)
Yep, that about sums it up!

I know a little someone who is as sweet as can be who absolutely loves unicorns.  Her name is Hannah and she is three years old.  We will be visiting in August and I am going to do my best to crochet her a little unicorn.

How Does Your Garden Grow ? Raised Garden Beds

God made rainy days so gardeners could get the housework done.  ~Unknown

My garden post has been long past due. Hopefully good things come to those who wait. ♥

This year, my husband and I decided to put in some raised beds to garden in instead of just planting everything in the ground. We chose 4' x 4' white vinyl raised beds from Costco.

Rustic Blackberry Pie for Dinner

Tuesdays are perfect for blackberry pie dinners!  And, oh my, there are leftovers for tomorrow too! ♥

My berry bushes are growing and flowering like wildfire.  There are a few baby berries growing but they aren't ready to pick yet. I just so happened to have blackberries in my freezer from the abundance of last year's garden.

Mother's Day Giveaway Winner

It is Monday afternoon and I am ready to turn in. I won't because if I did I would wake up at midnight and that would not be a good thing. Instead, I think I will have another cup of coffee.

I hope everyone had a lovely Mother's Day. I did - so much so that I am plum worn out. I had fun visiting, shopping, and eating delicious food.

Without further ado, I would like to announce the winner of my Mother's Day Giveaway ~ congratulations, Elizabeth of roosje {little rose}.  Elizabeth, please send me your snail mail information at and I will mail your pretty treasures asap.

Thank you ladies for commenting & entering. I hope to have another giveaway soon. xo

Sail Away ~ Red Pepper Egg Boat

I thought I would try something different for breakfast this morning. Well, for second breakfast.  My husband and I are rather like hobbits in that we tend to have smaller more frequent meals.

Coffee and toast is usually first breakfast.  I need my coffee to wake me up and toast is a "cushion" in my tummy for the coffee.

Mother's Day Giveaway @ My Gathering Basket

In honor of the mothers we have, the mothers we are, and the mothers we may be...  let's have a giveaway!

I had hoped to host this earlier and have the winner chosen, and treasures mailed by Mother's Day but that isn't going to happen. That's ok.  As mothers, we learn to be flexible! ♥

A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.

Let's Party! Cinco De Mayo

This weekend has been filled with parties!

Friday, we drove down to South Carolina for the weekend for Sam's birthday party. He is turning 2 years old!  What fun we all had together.  It did this Nana's heart good to snuggle little Sam.  Sadly, we drove home today.  I miss him already though we enjoyed 2 1/2 wonderful days with him.

And then there is today's celebration!!

A Peculiar Occurance

This is me.  This is me utterly confused.  Rather than having my head keep spinning, I decided to go outside and smell the flowers.

I love this little cardboard robot.  I think she needs a hug.

So the most peculiar occurrence happened today and I don't know what to make of it.

Berry Moments

Strawberries that in gardens grow are plump and juicy fine, but sweeter far as wise men know Spring from the woodland vine. No need for bowl or silver spoon, sugar or spice or cream has the wild berry plucked in June beside the trickling stream. One such to melt at the tongue's root, confounding taste with scent, beats a full peck of garden fruit: which points my argument. ~Robert Graves

I have been busy in the garden and woods. Spring is full of all sorts of chores which don't feel like work as the gentle sun warms your hands and heart. Memories of cold winter days are long gone. Hope lies ahead.

With most of the garden now planted, I can return inside to some lovely yet much neglected tasks such as blogging.  I have missed everyone and hope to get back to almost daily posts.  xo

My Easter Menu

*Thank you to everyone who sent me an Easter card, letter, or postcard! They are all decorating my fireplace mantel and I smile every time I see them.

*The photograph in yesterday's post was taken by my husband. We have/had a nest in one of our large bushes. We don't know what happened to them. We didn't see them hatch but the eggs are gone and we have not seen the mother bird. I have a sinking feeling that an animal got to her eggs. Nature is brutal sometimes.
